STOCK AND STATIONS.
At length the drought has broken, and the rain so much needed commenced to fall early on Tuesday morning, and continued steadily till early on Wednesday. Although the rain may do some little damage to the crops out and in the field, it will insure turnip crops for autumn feed, and should fill up splendid!}' all late cereal crops. At Addington on Wednesday, 1567 sheep and lambs 239 cattle, and 32 pigs were yarded for the week. Fat Sheep.—Notwithstanding the short supply, prices did not advance as was anticipated, most of the trade having secured supplies outside, consequently there was but little demand. Best mutton made equal to 2d, inferior l£d. Beef.—ls in full supply, and, but for the operations of a Southern buyer, a considerable reduction in prices would have had to have been submitted to in order to effect a clearance. Best beef made from 27s 6d, 30s, to 32s Gd ; medium, 23s to 255.
Lanibs.—ln short supply ; selling readily at from 7s to 9s Gd, according to weight.
Store Cattle.; —In consequence of the rain are in brisk demand ; selling readily at advanced prices.
Messrs Wilkin and Co. report;— Wool— Since our public sale an Jan. 7, we have disposed of 40 of the unsold bales at owners' reserves. Sheepskins —At our weekly sale on Wednesday we catalogued 2227 skins. There was only a moderate attendance of buyers, and very little competition was exhibited in their biddings. We have, therefore, to report a decline upon last week's prices as follows:— Crossbred, large, full-woolled, 3s 6d to 4s 3d each ; crossbred, medium, half-woolled, 33 Id to 3s 6d each ; crossbred, small and inferior, 2s 5d to 3s Id each ; merino large, full-woolled, 3s 4d to 4s 2d each ; merino, medium, half-woolled, 2s9d to 3s 4d each ; merino, small and inferior, ls 4d to 2s 9d each. Lambskins, ls 2d, ls 3d. and ls 4d eacn. Pelts, 2d to 9d each. Tallow— A small quantity of butchers' rough fat was offered, and sold at the following prices:—Best clean well saved, 2|d to 2|d per lb ; second quality, lfd to 2£d per lb ; inferior and heated, lfd to lfd. HidesThere was a fair attendance of the trade, and ail lots were sold. Salted, at 3|d per lb ; cut and damaged, half price.
Is to Is 2d , oats, old, 4s to 4s 2d ; potatoes, £6 lCs, £7, to £8 12s ; bacon, country euro, nominal price 5d to 6-£ d. Oamaru, Jan. 17. There is great stagnation in the grain market. Quotations are merely nominal, and remain as last given.
