(from the lyttelton times.) London, Jan. 16. Count Gola, the Italian representative on the Turkish Frontier Commission, has been murdered at Stamboul. General Primrose has been ordered to advance from Candahar to Ghuznee. A definite treaty of peace was signed to-day between Russia and Turkey. A dividend of 6s 8d is payable by the Glascow Bank on Feb. 28. New Zealand fives are at 101. Flour is Is 6d lower. Proposals have been submitted by the Colonial Institute to hold a colonial exhibition in London. The French Ministerial Statement today declared that they and the country were Republican, actuated by pacific motives, and promised vigorous measures. In order, to increase the prosperity of the Republic the termination of existing commercial treaties was therefore necessary, without departing from the principles of free trade. Changes of an anti-republican nature would be avoided unless detrimental to the interests of the country. The statement was coldly received. Jan. 17. The Directors of the Bank of England have reduced the rate of discount to 4 per cent. . The German war vessels Ariadne and Nautilus have been directed to exact satisfaction from Samoa. The rapid advance of the British troops on Cabul has produced complete disorganisation amongst the Ameer's troops, and anarchy prevails in the city. There is a political crisis in France, and a change of Ministry is probable. The French Press condemn the Ministeral Statement as too moderate. The position of the Ministry is considerably weakened. Paris, Jan. 16. M. Martel, the moderate Republican candidate, has been elected President of the Senate.
