BATHING HOURS.

To the Editor: of'the Akaroa, Mail. Sir, —I wish to correct a wrong impression in Mr Wilkins' letter of your last issue. ' Although I moved; in the Borough Council that no bathing be allowed after seven in the morning, I,assure Mr Wilkins it was not done with the intention to vex him or any other cleanly disposed person from, iudulging in their manly exercise, but from ' motives of decency. Perhaps Mr Wilkins has a wife or a sister ; he cer-tainly-has had a mother. I ask him would he like either of these restricted . from a walk on a fine summer's evening upon the wharf, simply because a few men take it into their heads that the wharf is the correct place for bathing, and whose morals cannot be very sensitive ? And further, can Mr Wilkins quote any seaport where such liberties are allowed ? So far as fine manly exercise, I think a quarter of a mile's walk round the beach to and from the bath would add still more zest to the bre&fast chop, I conclusion, sir, Mr Wilkins is not very happy in his attempted pun where the pnblican has ceased to be the sinner, aa I trust, whether I am one or the other, I shall always have sufficient self-respect not to try. and bolster up such an indecent exposure. Yovrs truly," J. BEECHER. Akaroa, Jan. 7, 1879.
