Ellison has been remanded for the gold robbery on board the Avoca. Scotland has subscribed £170,000 to the Glasgow Bank relief fund. New Zealand five per cent, consolidated are quoted at par. Sir A. Gordon, Governor of Fiji, on the occasion of being presented with the freedom of Aberdeen, stated that he recognsied the eminent qualities of the higher permanent colonial officials but deprecated the eagerness of the Colonial Office to avoid party questions. It was calculated to render Governors careless of the interests of the colonies.
