"THAT PEACEFUL BOROUGH COUNCIL."
To the Editor of the Ackaroa Mail.
Sir, —I was thinking, and my thoughts ran " thusly "—Suppose the Borough Council should suddenly resolve to order a lot of drain pipes from Di.nedin, who would collect the freight and wharfage on them ? Perhaps Councillor Helming will answer this.
But Sir, are the auditors servants of the Council ? If so, how does that affect the Mail accounts, which I think are the largest the Council have to pay ? Need Mr Billens prove that these things are, or are not, illegal ? As my sweet Adonis sometimes says—" The faults which we ascribe to others oft in ourselves do lie." And his particular friend remarks—" To be honest as this world goes is to be one among ten thousand." No more at present from yours, &c, VENUS.
[With regard to " Venus'" second question—•• Are the the auditora servants of the Council ?" we say—emphatically no.— Ed. A. M.]
