INTERPROVINCIAL TELEGRAMS.
(per press agency.) Auckland, Oct. 15. The presentation of a purse of sovereigns and a farewell address to Mr Luckie, on the occasion of his departure, for Wellington, took place to-day. The presentation was made by Messrs J. Russell, Cosgrave, Aitken and Dortnecker. The Fiji Bank is declared finally wound up. The mail steamer Zealandia arrived early this morning from Sydney, but brings no later news than ihat by the Arawata. She sailed again with the outward mail at four o'clock. The outward mail steamer Zealandid, went ashore off St. George's Bay in going out on her way to San Francisco. The tide is rising, and she is not yet off, Oct. 16. It appears the steamer Zealandia merely touched the edge of the mud bank. There was not the slightest damage, and she went straight on. Hokitika, Oct. 15. The Waipara, which tendered the Tararua, has on board the Sisters of Mercy to take charge of the Convent schools. The Waipara is expected at eleven to-night, when the Sisters will have a warm welcome. Dunedin, Oct. 15. The Public Works Department is taking steps, in conjunction with the Survey Department, to complete the record made of flood levels throughout the Middle Island. The South Duncdin Council have expressed themselves in favor of the introduction of tramways in that Borough. The amount of beer tax which will have to be refunded in Dunedin is £1030. A petition is being got up here against the Townships Act. The London correspondent of the Adelaide Observer states that among the candidates for the chair of English Literature in the Otago Uuiversity will be Mr William Black, the novelist, and Mr Minton, of the London Examiner. Subscriptions in aid of the sufferers are coming in freely. Oct. 16. Up to the present time, the floods relief committee have collected £596. At a meeting held in Dunedin to-day, it was resolved that the Government be urged to repair the Balclutha bridge without delay. The Bank of New Zealand has given £100 to the flood relief fund.
