COMMERCIAL.

FROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

In the grain market-the business for the most part has exhibited little or no alteration. The week opened with a very dull feeling, and closed with the same ineitness that characterised the beginning. Latest dates from Melbourne still advise an exceedingly dull market, with a slack inquiry for breadstuff's. Sydney advices are a shade better, but the improvement in value was more in wheats from Victoria and; South Australia. Oats. —Transactions have not been at all extensive, the inquiry being confined solely, to home requirements. Values remain at 3s lid to 4s Id ; milling, 4s 2d. Melbourne advices report that oats are firmly held, although the demand was slack. Some large parcels sent up by late steamers had to be stored, the_ price offered, neither coming up to consignees' ideas of value, nor covering cost and charges. Pptatoes do net call for special comment. Holders are anxious to quit, and are selling for best prices obtainably, which are nominal. Flour —We have not much business to note in this article. Millers are pushing sales, and in many cases are seeking relief for stocks in consigning. It is quoted at £9 5s to £10 10s, according to brand. Bran and sharps are in good request. The inquiry for oatmeal has fallen off considerably, owing to the approach of summer, although the value has not yet been affected Grass Seed. —The limited demand for grass seeds noticed last week has not improved to any appreciable extent. Most of the orders in the market have been executed by holders at 6s 3d to 7s. If we are favoured with rain, it is expected that a fair business will be done, as a considerable portion of the seed put in shortly before the late high winds has been completely lost, and will have to be re-sown. Cocksfoot is quoted by holders at 7d to 7|d. Dairy Produce.—Butter, cheese, hams, and bacon show no alteration.
