ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
[We are at all times ready to give ex pression to every shade of opinion, but In no case do we bold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of our correspondents.]
FARR'S BRIDGE* To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. Sir, —We are much pleased to Jearn that this much needed work will shortly be put in hand and, when completed; with its proposed embellishments, will be an ornament to the town, and reflect the greatest credit on Mr E. W. Morey, from whose fertile brain the design has emanated, and whose pure and artistic taste in all matters connected with pleasure grounds and all other public improvements is notorious. We sincerely hope that Mr Morey who has obtained the contract for this work will carry it out with that straightforwardness for which he is proverbial, and execute it to the strict letter of the specifications, a point on which sceptics might be dubious. We have heard it rumored that after Mr Morey signed the contract he presented Mr Roberts (who is to supervise the work) with a rare exotic in a decorarated vase or flower pot, who proposes to present it to the Borough Council as a graceful acknowledgement for having been appointed to fill that important post, but one which we certainly should not covet. On looking over the Akaroa Mail of the 23rd August we found it was suggested by one of the Councillors that when the bridge is completed one of the pillars should be faced with white stone and that the name of His Worship the Mayor with the date of its erecton be inscribed thereon. In addition to this we would propose that the flower and pot which was presented by Mr Morey to Mr Roberts should be placed on the top of one of the pillars and attached thereto with some of Mr Morey's very best soft soap, a composition in .which he is supposed to excel. Underneath the flower pot we think the following inscription :— Pro patria Morey. might not be deemed inappropriate.—Yours &c, OYSTER SHELLS. German Bay, 12th Sept.
