COMMERCIAL.
FROM THE L7TTELTON TIMES. Christchureh, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
Business during the week has exhibited a continued inactivity and total indisposition on the part of traders to operate. The chance of a better feeling arising from an improved outside inquiry is considered a remote one, as advices from nearly all the markets do not point in that direction. In fact, business of this description at the present time is solely dependent on the negotiation of a cheap freight. Stocks are still heavy, and are being held in the hope that the large exports that have been going on will relieve the market, and tend to an improvement in prices much later on. Potatoes. —The market continues in a very uncertain state. Purchases are only made for positive orders. Flour is dull of sale, and most of the shipments going forward are consignments. It is quoted at £10 to £11. Ghass Seed.—Cocksfoot, according to quality, is worth 6|d to 7d. Dairy PRODUCE.-Butter, of good quality, is in slightly better demand, and commands 10d ; cheese, s£dto 6d ; hams and bacon, in cloth, 7| to Bd.
