(per press agency.) Wellington, August 19. The Committee of the Chamber of Commerce to-day instructed the Secretary to bring under the notice of the Minister of Justice a defect in the Debtors and Cre. ditors Act, 1876, whereby a secured creditor, no matter the amount of his claim is practically precluded from voting at meetings of creditors. The Secretary was also instructed to procure samples of wool to forward to Monckton Synott, Melbourne, for the inspection of the Japanese Commissioners. A caucus of Native members of both Houses met. to-day. All were present except Karaitiana. They are going to ask Government to bring in a new Bill to provide for additional Maori representation by which the North Island would obtain two more members, and the South one more ; to do away with the Maori double vote except when the Maoris are ratepayers, who should be allowed to vote for Europeans as well as Maoris. Christchurh, August 19, The Canterbury Farmers Grain and Produce Company to-day purchased from the Government the lease of two acres of ground at Addington on the line of railway, for the purpose of erecting large stores, which will hold, when completed 14,000 tons,, or 140,000 sacks of grain The lease is for twenty-one years, at £670 a year; at the end of that time the Government pay for all improvements.
