CORN EXCHANGE REPORT.

The following is the report for the week ending Friday evening, July 26 :— Grass Seed.—There are inquiries for export. First class samples would realise to 63 9d per bushel. Cocksfoot is in request At 7d t. 7£d per lb. The supply is limited.

Potatoes. —Recent advices from the Adelaide, Victoria, Sydney, and Queensland markets point to higher rates mling. 'The price of potatoes is fully confirmed, and ma3 r be looked upon as a substantial one without doubt. The demand for seed purposes will tend to strengthen the rates quoted. Sales have been made at Port Lyttelton during the week at £4 15s per ton f.o.b. Holders are now looking for higher rates. Farmers are refusing £3 10s per ton, delivered at the inland railway stations. Very high rates are asked for . seed potatoes. Cheese and Butter. — Cheese is in -moderate demand; prime is saleable at 5£ to 6d per lb ; medium 5d to s£d per lb. Butter, prime potted, is taken at 10£ d per lb ; medium to good is in request at 9d to •r9£d per lb. The supply is fair.

The land sales on Thursday amounted to ;ai,842 acres, aB follows:—Ashley, 2547 ; Selwyn, 76 ; Akaroa, 439 ; Ashburton, 954; • Geraldine, 2054; Waimate, 5772; realising £23,684. Mr H. E. Alport reports the following important sale by auction on Thursday 'last, at the premises, Lincoln road, in the matter of T. S. Pryde:—Twelve shares in -the Canterbury Saleyards Company (Lim_ted), paid up £5. sold at £8 7s 6d per share; buggy, £3210s ; horse, £12 10s ; .filly foal, £7 ss; 2 do, £5 each; cow, £6. A quantity of furniture brought full rates. The equity of redemption of the diouse and land known as Rankin's store was not sold.

Messrs R. Wilkin and Co., report:— Wool.—Some few bags sold at from 7d to per lb. Several bales locks and pieces were offered, and brought from lfd to ;s£d per lb—Sheepskins.—There was a large catalogue on Thursday, numbering _»506. The attendance of buyers was fair, but bidding at the early part of the sale -decidedly dull, improving, however, towards the close.- Although the top ■price at the sale was 2d above that of last week, still we have to report the average throughout at from 2d to 6d per skin lower. Tallow. — Thsre was a large quantity of Butchers' rough fat offered, which met with a ready aale. We quote— Best clean well saved, 2|d to 2|d per lb ; second quality, l|d to 2£d per lb; inferior and heated, l£d to lfd per lb. Hides.— There were no buyers.
