THE COMING ELECTION.
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.
Sir, —I am not at all clear that Mr M'Donald has answered any question ; on the contrary, I rather feel that he has put
us off. I will make the question plainer— Does Mr M'Donald expect that the General Government will pay him compensation for the road diversion through his leasehold, and, in the event of their not paying —which they certainly will not —will Mr M'Donald forget any claim against the Road Board, and still allow the public t& use the present diversion through liis leasehold ? I don't want Mr M'Donald to suppose that on principle I object to a person being paid for damage done to property by the R .ad Board or any other b'idy, but I do object to a claimant against the Road Roard funds sitting at the table of that Board, using an iiilluoiice in some way or other that must to a certain extent weigh to his own advantage. What I feel is tbat Mr M'Donald is a good man enough as Road' Board members go to sit amongst them, ; but he should avoid any position on the Board until it is quite clear who is going to pay a claim that he will undoubtedly make against someone. Yours, &c,
VOTER.
