Invercargill, July 17. - The election for Invercargill to-day resulted as follows :— H. Feldwick ... .., 230 W. Bain ... ... 219 Majority for Feldwick... 11 There was tremendous excitement in the town all day, most strenuous exertions being made to bring up every available vote. The roll for Invercargill contains 763 names, the absent and missing bringing that number down to about 600, of whom 458 were brought to the poll, or more than one-third more than polled at the Provincialism versus Abolition contest. Mr Feldwick is one of the proprietors of- the Southland Daily News, and a thorough supporter of the Grey Ministry. Mr Bain is proprietor sf the Southland Times, and is on the opposite side of politics.
