AKAROA LICENSING COURT.

(Before Justin Aylmer, E. C. Latter, H. H" Fenton, C. Knight, EaqiL,- Commissioners.) - - ■, Thomas Adams, Criterion Hotel.—License granted,' subject to the erection of a urinal within the conditions of the Board of Health. V' ■-• W. Ashton, Pigeon Bay Hotel.—The police reported unfavqrably with regard to the accommodation and stabjing, as. being insufficient. Mt Ashton stated that he had written to Mr Hay, who had replied that they Were-not inclined to do anything further to the. hotel .until November, when it was likely a new house would be erected. His (Mr Ashton'e) lease .was. ahnost expired, but be had to apply for the license up to that'time. The. Bench granted the lieerfse as'it was rather a peculiar case. ; J.: Beecher, Bruce's Hotel. — License granted, subject to the erection of a urinal.

Hotel licenses were granted to Messrs T. Brooks, Somerset Hotel, Head of the Bay ; and to Edward Haines, of Garwood's House on the Hill Top. J. Olphert, Forsyth Arms Hotel, Little River.—The police reported that a sittingroom in this house required a fireplace, and that four more stalls were required in addition to the present stabling accommodation. Mr Olphert said that the owner, Mr Stanbury, had promised to do all that was required. License granted. ' T. Pawson, Little Akaloa Hotel.—The police reported that this house waa in a most dilapidated state, and unfit to be licensed. The present preprietor's lease was nearly expired, and he was therefore somewhat careless about the matter, but had the. house belonged to Mr Pawson, it would have been very different. Mr Pawson handed in a letter from Mr M'lntosh, the proprietor, promising that the necessary alterations should be completed in nine months' time. The Bench granted the license on the understanding that two more bedrooms, a sitting-room with fireplace, a new stable be built, and the house re-shingled by next quarterly meeting. J. E. Thacker, Okain's Bay.—License granted, subject to a stable, stockyard, and one sitting-room being eracted. Hotel licenses were also granted to H. Wagstaff, Wagstaff's Hotel; G. Wascoe, Beach Arms; and A. Rodrigues, Madeira Hotel.
