ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

[We are at all times ready to give expression to every shade of opinion, but in no case do we hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of our correspondents.]

LARRIKINISM,

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.

Sir, —You have been requested to make public the late disgraceful conduct of some of the rising generation in this place, and if some steps are not taken to stop their

beastly "career, what can be expected of I them? who ever it is that would conceal their names, is only encouraging the boys in their Hllany. Let. all parents ask themselves whether they can send out a little girl in safety whilst such conduct is to be passed over in mistaken delicacy. Fie upon su<h delicacy! Come forth in the true spirit of morality and expose the culprits ere we have to d-plore 'lie loss of some innocent littli- oik.! T think that if a public example were at one*, made it might aid in stoppin-r some of the larrikinism so much in practice at the present time. For punishment, make them, under the charge of a Constable, clear all the paths in the town from mar'shmallows that are becoming such a nuisance. If this public exhibition did not, check them, forthe next offence have them horsewhipped at a cart's tail from one end of the town to the other.—Yours, &c,

AN INTERESTED ONE FOR THE RISING GENERATION.

ROAD BOARD COMPENSATION.

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.

Sir, —I do not recollect seeing in your paper any report of the awards given in cases of road diversions through private property. Strange rumours are floating about, of excessive sums of public money finding their way into the hands of certain road board members. Surely the ought to know fully of all proceedings involving disbursement of funds belonging to all of us.

Yours &c,

RATEPAYER,

P.S.—Seeing that "Diogenes" has lit his lamp, I hope he will keep it burning until these matters are cleared up.
