ORIGINAL POETRY.
SBRENADB,
I do not wish to wake you, love,
If you have gone to rest. If sleep has fallen upon your eyes,
. Sleep on, love, it is best; For spirits fair my song Avill bear,
And whisper in your ear In silver tones my Avords of love To you, my ever dear.
I fancy I can see a smile,
Part of your happy dreams, Steal o'er your face—a smile so full
Of radiant loA T e—it seems As if some glorious unknown land
Had opened to your sight— A land of loveliness supreme, Where love lends all the light,
Your face in smiles recalls to me The sea in mildest mood, When by a gentle balmy wind In whisp'rings sweet 'tis wooed, And, breaking into ripples light, It turns its smiling face, Although love-lit, yet shy to meet Its Avooer's soft embrace.
Life of my soul! your smiles are as The sun to some frail flower ; They draw my love up to the light By a resistless power, , Until they make me feel as if , 0 Such were your power o'er me That, bursting through its mortal bondß, My soul to you would flee.
Drawn by magnetic chain of love All-conq'ring in its might, Although concealed and Avreathed by j flowers, Wound round it fair and bright, And hidden by the perfumed clouds, That from love's altars rise, Of incense smoke, in fairy shapes So oft before our eyes. Sleep on! and when the god of rest Away from you has stole On drowsy wings, and lifted up The curtains of your soul, Some fleeting recollection will Your mind be haunting yet, That in the mystic realms of dreams Our souls together met.
