AKAROA DOMAIN.
To the Editor of the Aharoa Mail.
Sir, —I am at a loss to understand the insiii'iation made by Mr Dalglish, a member of the Akaroa County Council, at a meeting held on the 12th inst., that the Akaroa Domain Board " had not as yet shown themselves conspicuous by their management." He also stated that he will oppose any vote to a nominated Board. I may here state that the Domain Board, being anxious to give up their trust to the Borough Council, wrote to the Government to that effect, and received an answer, a copy of which I enclose :— " Government Buildings, * "Christchurch, 25th June, 1877. "Sir,—l am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter ofthe 18th inst., addressedto Mr Rollestorv, in which you state the wish of the Domain Board to transfer to the Borough Council the management of the Domain ; and to slate in reply that there is not at present any authority under which the contemplated transfer could be made. I am, therefore, to suggest that the gentlemen who are now acting as the Domain Board should continue in office for the present. " I have the honor to be, Sir. •' Your obedient servant, " W. Jameson. "S. Watkins, Esq., Secretary Akaroa Domain Board." I shall be most happy to show Mr Dalglish or any other gentleman the accounts of the Board as kept by me, and trust that the voluntary services of those gentlemen who constitute the Akaroa Domain Board, and who have tried to do their best for the prosperity of the place, may not be disparaged by a thoughtless remark made, doubtless, without due consideration. Yours. &c, STEPHEN WATKINS, Treasurer and Secretary, Akaroa Domain Board. Akaroa, March 18.
