AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the above Council was held at their offices on Wednesday, March 13. Present —His Worship the Mayor, Crs Penlington, Annand, Sunckell, Waeckerle, O'Reilly and Cullen. . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr J. Vangioni, calling the Council's attention to a very dangerous hole near his property in Brittanstrect. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Penlington, that the matter be referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. Letters were also read from the Clerk of City Council, Christchurch, and the Town Clerks of Lyttelton and Kaiapoi re the letting and fencing of the 2000 acres reserve. After considerable discussion, it was proposed by Cr O'Beilly, and carried, that the question of letting the endowment reserve be allowed to stand over until the next meeting of the Council. His Worship called the Council's attention to the forthcoming meeting in Christchurch of Mayors and Chairmen of County Councils, to discuss the question of Hospitals and Charitable Institutions, remarking at the same time upon the present unsatisfactory arrangements. Cr O'Reilly also thought the present system of out-door relief might be much better managed by local officers.

It was finally resolved, that the Mayor be requested to attend the Conference on behalf of the Borough. On the question of letting the reserves within the town boundary, it was decided that the reserves be let for one year, and' that tenders be called for each reserve, such tenders to close this day week. Before the meeting closed, Cr O'Reilly wished to call the attention of the Council to , the state of the Borough finances, and suggested that the ratepayers' accounts for forming footpaths be made out without unnecessary delay. The Town Clerk was instructed to atted to the matter at once. The Council then adjourned until Wednesday, March. 20.
