AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, March 16,

Present — Messrs Piper (Chairman), Williams, Dnxbury, and Shadbolt.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Mr H. G. Watkius waited upon the Board in reference to his letter, received at the last meeting of the Board, with regard to the opening up of the track,, known as " Harman's Track," through his property at Little River. He was in receipt of the Board's reply, and had accordingly written to Mr Wilson, Clerk to the Little River Road Board, who had infpnned him that the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board District now included his land, so that they could do nothing. All.he wanted was the track opened and cleared. The line was already pegged out, and its opening would give a good manj' frontages to owners of land. It was a7or 8 feet track, and about 70 chains long, no benching being required. The Clerk was instructed to visit and report. Mr Watkins, having thanked the Board,, then retired. Mr J. Varrgioni was preaent to explain to the Board, re his contract on Mr Glynan's property, that he had been advised that he could not legally go on private land, but that he would goon with his contract if the Board guaranteed him from all action for trespass, damages, &c, that might ensue.

The Chairman said he supposed the Board would be responsible, as they had let him the contract.

In reply to Mr Shadbolt, Mr Vangioni stated that he had not commenced his contract, because Mr Glynan had met him and told him he should stop him, and had accordingly sent him a letter to that effect the morning after, which letter was published in the last issue of the Akaroa Mail. Mr J. Duxbury said that decidedly the Board were responsible. Mr Vangioni said that being the case, he was perfectly satisfied, and that he would go on with his contract forthwith. BARRY'S BAY VALLEY ROAD. T. Brough and T. Widdicombe were the only tenderers for this work. Mr Williams proposed that both the tenders should be thrown out, and that no tenders should be accepted from them as they had not completed previous contracts, and their work was not satisfactory to the Board. Seconded by Mr Shadbolt, and carried. It waa resolved that Messrs Kenny, Everall and Gunning, and Widdicombe be called upon to proceed forthwith with their contracts, on the Long Bay, Pigeon Bay, and Robinson's Bay roads respectively within a week, or that fresh tenders be called, and the deposits forfeited. FRENCH FARM BRIDGE PROTECTIVE WORKS. The tenders of T. Widdicombe and T. Brough were declined, and one from J. Wright was informal. J.
