PIGEON BAY SCHOOL.

A meeting of the, School Committee was held on the 31st ult., wheti there were present—Messrs Scott, Kuiidsen, and Pitcaithly (Chairman). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman stated that Mr Harlock had examined the school, the result being satisfactory. ' . Mr Harlock's report was Tead, showing those children who were entitled to prizes. The prizes were distributed at the close of the examination, the non-prizetakers also getting a book each of less value. The sewing department was examined by Mrs T. 0. Hay and Miss Mary Stout. As no preparation had been made, the result was not so satisfactory. Three prizes were given for plain sewing. An account for prizes, amounting to £5 lis 9d, was received from Whitcombe and Co., which was ordered to be paid. A tender was received from Mrs Smith for cleaning the school for 'twelve months for £14, duties to- commence Mxom the Ist of January, 1878. Proposed by Mr Knudsen,, seconded by Mr Scott, that Mrs Smith's tender be accepted. Carried. Mr Scott proposed, and Mr Knudsen seconded, that certain recommendations of Mrs T. 0. Hay and Miss Stout be accepted, and acted upon for the! ensuing yqar.) An account for £1 2s6d,,for repairs, was received from Mr Khuaßeo, which was ordered to be paid. Miss Marshall handed in cash and subscription sheet—-for prizes, £7.13s 6d ; for sports, £7 10s. The following statement of the receipts and expenditure in connection with the school sports, &c, was kid before the Committee :- Income for prizes, £7 13s 6d ; expenditure,. £5 lis 9d; balance in hand, £2 Is 9d. Income for sports, £9 12s 6d; expenditure, £9 5s 4d ; balance in hand, 7s 2d.
