AKAROA RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Tuesday, Dec. 18. (Before Justin Aylmer, Esq., R.M., and His Worship the Mayor) vagrancy and larceny. A lad named Harry John Parry was charged with being a vagrant, also with having stolen, from the residence of a man who had kindly given him a night's lodging, the sum of £2 in notes. The prisoner pleaded guilty to the latter charge, and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labor. cattle trespass. - J. Beecher was fined 10s and costs. . unregistered dogs. Henry Mcllale was fined 20s and costs for having in his possession an unregistered dog above the age prescribed by the Act. • '■; ■■'■• M. R. O'Reilly.—This case, which had been adjourned to allow of some settlement being come to between the parties concerned, and to enable a proper assessment of the damages to be made, was now re 7 heard, when the defendant stated that the valuators appointed by each side had failed; to agree and that a third party had been called in. The Bench gave judgment for 30s, the costs to be; divided, each side to pay its own witnesses. J. Borland v. Everall and Gunning.— Claim £16 lis; £7 19 had been paid into Court; Mr Nalder for plaintiff. Judgment given for amount claimed with costs. J. Haines v. Everall and Gunning.— After hearing the evidence in this case, the Bench gave judgment for the amount paid into Court, viz., £12 9s. The Court then adjourned. Wednesday, Dec. 19. (Before Justin Aylmer, Esq., R,M.,) ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES. Two inebriates, who appeared for the first time, were charged with attempting to break into the premises of Mrs Williams at about 11.30 p.m. on the night previous. The evidence showing that the prisoners were strangers to the place, and had inbibed too much " Hooper " in keeping up the holiday time, and had been misinformed as to the nature of the house in question, the case was dismissed.
