This will prove of the utmost advantage to business men. The next outgoing mail via San Francisco will therefore close in Christchurch on Friday, Jan. 4th proximo. The Grand Lodge of the 1.0. G.T. commenced their annual session on Tuesday morning last, at the Oddfellows Hall, Timaru. Bro. Clements represents the Peninsula Good Templars in the Grand Lodge. It would be a good thing for the Order if the representatives now assembled could legislate in such a manner as to diminish, if not entirely put a stop to, the wrangling and dissension that characterises the proceedings of so many of the Lodges. We are informed that the yacht Fleetwing will start from Lyttelton to-morrow, so that if the weather is favourable she may be expected round here on Sunday. Messrs McLucas and |McKay, of Barry's Bay, have rented the Onuku Eainga saw-mills, and commence work immediately. No doubt the 1 extra, supply of J sawn timber thus will be an accommodation to the district. The arrival of the schooner " Jane Hannah " from the Bluff with a cargo of timber, consigned to this port, is a proof that local material must be inadequate to the demand, though 1 It seems on the $ face of it rather like ; " bringing ,' By reference to our advertising columns ' t it wiljjba.seen fl?at tenders ar© invited for the-supply of furniture and necessary fittings required at the Hospital. Whatever; may have been the diiatoiiness in attending to this matter in the first instance, the promptitude, with which the recommendations of Mr' March have been responded to, 'and his" suggestions"adopted, is worthy of all credit.
