The Akaroa Mail. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23.

When tho Lakes Ellesmere and-Forsyth-Reclamation and Akaroa Railway Trust were appointed, it was stipulated by G6vernnent that their report on the drainage of the Lakes and the survey of the proposed line of Railway should be submitted; to Parliament by nest session. It will be remembered, that after the appointment of the Engineer by the' Trust, some delay occurred in that gentleman's arrival, and, moreover, it must be evident that the necessary preliminaries to the setting in working order of such an important undertaking would occupy considerable time, and, indeed, should be cautiously and carefully proceeded with so as to ensure success in the end. With this in view, we are of opinion that the Trust have ihardly been granted sufficient time for the maturing of any proper scheme, or for that thorough investigation which the magnitude of the work demands, and would therefore suggest that the Trust, while yet the House is sitting, should apply for an extension of time. Works of this nature are never improved by being hurried to a conclusion. The object is not so much to see the work done quickly, as to see it done Well.
