LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.
o Monday, November 5. Present — Messrs Parkinson, Gebbie, Birdling, and Coop. Mr Parkinson was elected chairman for the remainder of the year. correspondence. From the Springs Road Board, intimating that the clearing of the Halswell river had been let for a period of twelve months. From Mr v_uf_, surveyor, enclosing tracing of proposed diversion of road from Gebbie's flat to Ahuriri. From Mr A. M'Phail, urging the Board to cause a bridle track to be made from Mount Bossu to the Wainui range. The clerk reported that the contract for quarrying and breaking 1000 yards of metal in Kaituna had been completed, with about 170 yards over the complement. It was decided to have about 250 yards in addition broken at the south point. Also, that Belcher Bros, had finished their metal contract in Caton's Bay, and that he had let them 200 yards to be broken in Harman's Bay. Also, that he had let 200 yards for repairs, to be broken at Taitapu quarry. Also, an experimental 200 yards, to be broken in Mr Manson's paddock, Gebbie's flat. Progress was reported upon the parties quarrying at various points on the margin of Lake Ell-sm_re. .The work undertaken by D. Galletly was ■also .reported upon, with the intimation that it was likely to be completed in contract time. The Board resolved to adopt the new line of road noted above, and to employ Mr Cuff to survey and set it off, and also supply the Board with sectional levels, and the clerk was ordered to communicate with him at once. It was concluded to advertise for tenders for shingling the road in course of formation between Barnett's and Kimber's bridge, and that the contractor, Mr Galletly be instructed to use a heavy roller on the work on tha completion of formation. The clerk was ordered to send timber down to Mr Streeter's for a small bridge on the chain reserve, along the Halswell river bank; also, to employ a man to clear tussocks from the Lincoln road. With reference to Mr M'Phail's application, the Board understanding that it is the intention of Government to hand over the £900 special grant to the Board for works in the quarter named, concluded, upon receipt of information that the money is available, to call a public meeting of the ratepayers at Little River to decide upon; suitable route for the'proposed road. It was resolved to write to the Chief Surveyor for a list of all land sold in the district since July 31, 1876 ; also, to call for tenders fcr breaking a quantity of metal for the purpose of covering the unmetalied portion of the main road in Little River bush.
