AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Presen. —Messrs Piper (Chairman), Duxbury, and Williams.
Mr Fenton, the engineer and surveyor employed by the Board, being in attendance, the question of payment for some damaged drain, dipes was discussed, the Board deciding -"..to consult their solicitor, with a view to trying the case in Court. CORRESPONDENCE. ' ; From Mr C. M'Donald, re extension of the Wainui road, offering the land required at £15 per acre, the Board to,p;iy him £2 per chain for erecting a fence of totara posts, manuka rails, and six wires. The Board accepted the offer, and instructed the engineer to draw up specifications for the work.
From W. G. Inman, Esq., giving written consent to arbitration in the claim for compensation for road going throilgh his property, and appointing MrC. W. Bridge as arbiter. From E. C. Latter, Esq., agreeing to act as the Board's arbitrator in the same case. *" . From T. S. Baker, Esq., French Farm, asking the Board to replace tbe fence pulled down by the contractors when putting the bridge across the creek. The clerk waa instructed to write to the contractor about the matter.
From Mr F. W. Moore, agreeing to arbitration in the matter of compensation for bis laud required in. continuing the road through from the Mauri reserve to the properties of Messrs H. Aylmer and C. Haylock. From the Chief Suiveyor, re the Board's request for a schedule of all Crown lands
sold within the district, stating that pressure of work rendered it impossible to get the work done by the department, but that he would get the required information if the Board would defray the expense of the same, or. he wilting to . place the office books at tl,ie disposal of anyone appointed by the Board.
: The clerk received instructions to write, saying that the Board would pay for any clerical assistance required. From Mr W. Bruce, drawing attention to the dangerous state of the Wainui jetty. The clerk was directed to reply, referring Mr Bruce to tbe proper authorities. From Mr W. Barne.it, calling attention to the dangerous state of the Le Bon's Bay road, some 20 chains from Fern Hill on the German Bay side of the range. , It was resolved that the road be widened, culverts put in, and the clerk prepare specifications, and tender for the work. The clerk also received instructions to peg out the Fiea Bay road. From Mr W. Kenny, in reference to his claim for balance due for work done. It was resolved that the claim be paid. Consideration of tbe Borough Council's letter in regard to Aylmer's Valley road was deferred. ; > The clerk was directed to write to the contractor, requesting him to remove'the condemned metal on Birdling's hill, Barry's Bay, as it was obstructing the road. payments.
