LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of this Board was hold in the office, at Kaituna, on Monday the Bth inst. Present—Messrs Murray (chairman), Parkinson, Gebbie and Coop. The following letters were received : —

From the Treasury, Wellington, intimating that the sum of £1415 2s. had been placed to the credit of; the District Fund Account, at the Union Bank in Christchurch. ....

From the Manager of the Bank acknowledging receipt thereof. From Mr Fenton, C.E., in relation to special grant from .Wainui Pass to foot of Lake Forsyth.

From Messrs, Snow and Anson relative to the same subject, and objecting to the proposed route by; Mount Bossu. From .the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, soliciting the co-operation of this Board in carrying out-the object of the above-named grant. - .

From the Springs Board, in reply, decling to assist in defraying the cost of letting put Lake Ellesmere, alleging that the

lake in no way effected the roads or drainage of the Springs district; also, stating that it is the intention of that Board to call for tenders for clearing the Halswell river, and intimating their resolve to call upon this Board to defray half cost of the operation. With reference to the communication of the Akaroa and Wainui Board re special grant; the clerk was ordered to inform that body of the willingness of the Little River Board to co-operate and assist in any way in furtherance of the object in view, and would beg to suggest that the line of proposed road be diverted from the direction as at first selected, and be made to pass down the Okute Valley and join the Christchurch and Akaroa road, opposite the Little River school, thereby con- : tributing largely to the convenience of residents on both sides of the range.

In considering the letter from the Springs Board, the members were of opinion, the plea that the lake did not effect the roads or drainage in the Springs district, would apply in the same way to the Halswell River, as it did not effect the roads or drainage in the Little River district. However, as the Roads Ordinance made the contribution in the latter case compulsory, the Board would beg to suggest that the work be put off until the autumn, as it would be injudicious at the present season of the year to go on with the work.

A tracing of the proposed diversion of road between Gebbie's Flat and Ahuriri being submitted for the consideration of the Board, Mr Gebbie was empowered to employ a surveyor to set off the same. It was resolved to advertise that a public meeting be held at the office, on Friday, the 26th inst, for the purpose of electing a member to serve on the Board in the room of the late Mr Buchanan.

A large number of tenders, received for quarrying and breaking metal, were entertained and accepted for 3500 cubic yards in quantities. A number of carters being present, it was decided to invite tenders at once for carting and spreading about 1600 yards of metal, which was done, and a tender accepted. The tenders accepted for metal ranged from 3s. 4d. to 4s. per cubic yard. The tender accepted for carting and spreading, the longest distance being about 50 chains, was Is. Bd. per yard. A tender was also accepted for road forKiraber's bridge, mation from Barnett's corner, Tar Tapu, to

A tender for 130 chains formation in Big Bay was declined, as considered too high. Monthly accounts being passed for payment, the Board adjourned.
