At inquest on woman burned at Asylum, verdict was returned that Mary Ann Fortune met her death by burning in cell; at Whau Lunatic Asylum, but how or by what means fire originated, no evidence to show. Jury appended following rider:—" That discipline carried out in Asylum is of most defective character, and that Government are greatly to blame for insufficient appliances for extinguishing fire.
