In Waka Maori libel case judgment given for plaintiff on all issues, damages £500. Foreman of Jury drew attention to exceptional nature of trial, and unusual duration, with view to special remuneration. Chief Justice said no power existed to grant such a thing. At conclusion of trial jury, presented their fee of twelve guineas to Benevolent Society.
George Jones was brought up at R. M. Court this morning. Bench ruled prima facie case made out. Jones committed for trial at Supreme Court, Otago. Defence reserved. Bail allowed.
