The "Middle," or "Moderate" party, of which five Canterbury men are members, has made all arrangements for a constitutional opposition to the present Ministry, and factious opposition will be discouraged. There is a fierce debate on respecting appointment of a committee to inquire into land transactions in Hawkes Bay. Ormond is speaking against Rees and Grey.
