CATHOLIC CHURCH GROUNDS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL.

Sißf-Would you kindly oblige me with the insertion in your paper of a few words. Has Akaroa 'become favoured with the presence of some" resident having commiinistical tendencies ? Some two. months 'ago, I dicl, for a time, dispose to the Misses, .de Malmanche of my interest in the sections, upon some of which the church and the priest's house stand. , At the time of my next visit, a month later, I saw cattle on the land. I found the fences broken ,in several places, and gave directions for the necessary repairs. When I came yesterday, I noticed everywhere fresh footprints of horses and horned cattle, and on .enquiring, I was told that a hole was liardly closed, when another was .made. I walked over \he land, and could see that ,near the upper south corner some person had used the axe or the saw to slip three rails off one post, and thus give free access to animals. Is not this cdmmunistical doing?. I call it besides the act of a knave, for I must suppose thet the ill-in-tentioned person takes advantage of the fact, that in my absence the property is guarded only by ladies. I warn the offender that I have requested the police to try to bring him within the reach of the law.—l am, Sir, your very respectful servant,! F. CHATAIGNER. August 25,1877.
