War continues at Samoa. Eebels during last month entrenched themselves in strong position. On 12th King party took offensive, and surrounded rebels. Parley ensued between chiefs of either side, and while it was going on, sudden fire opened on insurgents, of whom between 50 and 100 were killed. Fighting lasted during night, rebels surrendeied in morning. King took their arms and set them at liberty. . The dead were mutilated. Among arms given up were several needle guns. The Steinberger party are the dominant faction. Dunedin, August 23. Clayton, Colonial Architect, died this morning at four o'clock. His foot was amputated a few days ago, and he gradually sunk since operation. Greymouth, August 23.
