To-day, at the Police Court, a curious case under ths Stamp Act was heard and decided. William V. Utting, a clerk employed by M'Arthur and Co., warehousemen, was charged with signing a receipt for £78 0s Id without the said receipt being duly stamped. The particulars appeared to be as follows:— A customer of the firm named Heldt sejjt a portion of the account which he owed the firm, and Utting, in reply by letter, stated that the sum named had been received.
