NEW ROAD DISTRICT.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL. Sir, —I read accounts in the Mail of two meetings that have been held at French Farm, for the purpose of dividing the Road Board District, and I also saw several letters in your paper on the same subject, so that when I heard there was to be a Board meeting on Saturday last, I concluded the ratepayers would shortly know what action was about to be taken in the matter. Has your reporter omitted to chronicle the Board's decision on this important subject, or are the ratepayers to understand that the members of the Road Board decline to trouble themselves? Surely the latter cannot' be the case, each member should represent the whole district, not any particular part of it, and should feel his responsibility sufficiently to prevent his allowing this severance to take place without moving hand or foot to enquire whether it is the wish of any considerable number of ratepayers. If .this is not the case, opportunity should be given to those who do not approve of tbe movement, to remonstrate, and a petition to that effect, addressed to the proper authorities' and to be found at the Road Board office, would, I am sure, be immediately signed, and would not entail any considerable trouble on the members, Bye-therbye, I.did.not,.see.that either of these gentlemen-atienjded. ■ofcijtbfriMiee.tinfrs at French Farm. I hear that the roads.in
