CROSSING OF THE DANUBE AT GALATZ.
WITHDRAWAL OF THE TURKS

St. John's, New Brunswick, was almost destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated ac about fifteen million dollars.
Bayazid has been recaptured by the Turks. The French Senateh have adopted the ** proposal for dissolution. June 25. * . The bombardment of the northern forts of Kars continues. A sortie was repulised. The Kurds have invested Bayazid It is believed to be the intention of the Turks to abandon the Dobrudscha, but make a firm stand ,at Tragan's wall. The Porte dissents from England's view regarding the propriety of not neutralising the Seuz canal, while refusing a belligerent power permission to erect necessary works for protection against an enemy. .\
The Government have received the following :— ' Singapore, June 25. The Cabinet in Council resolved to\. ask credit for cautionary preparations. The Russians are crossing at Galatz. The Turks at Matchin are retirpg. -> ■ A despatch from Prince Gortschakoff* states that Russia does not intend acquiring Stamboul. June 26. The Russians have occupied Mitchin The passage over the Danube con-' tinues. June 25. . The Russians crossed the Danube at Galatz, with slight loss, and hold Matchin. They were well received by the Christian inhabitants. Kars holds out. The Russians were, repulsed in the last attack with great loss. The Emperor is with the troops at Ploiesti. The Montenegrins are still resisting, - although they were defeated after killing** 7000 Turks. ' ' Prince Gortschakoff assures Lord Derby that the Suez Canal is to be respected as. international. Constantinople is not to be occupied by Russians or other European power if conquered, but to be a free city, and its future occupation by any European power to be subsequently arranged.
