PUBLIC LIBRARY.
TO THE -EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL. Sir, —While commending generally the of the Committee of the üblic Library, there is one matter which must strike visitors, as not being up to the general average of the rest of their arrangements. I refer particularly to the sfllrcity of newspapers and periodicals on the reading table. There should be at least one English weekly of the " Satur-
day Eevlew" or the." World"; a couple of monthlies say the " Cornhill" and " Macmillan" if " Fraser" and " Blackwood" are considered beyond the limit of Akaroa intelligence. A Sydney paper is also a desideratum. What has the " Lyttelton Times" done that it should be totally excluded by the Committee ? Want of funds need not be pleaded, as I am sure tho small outlay required to carry out the above suggestions would be quite made up by the increase in subscriptions, and by the sale of the papers, say a month old on the arrival of each English mail. 1 trust the Committee will see their way to grant what would be a decided advance in the tone of the Institution.—Yours, &c,
A CASUAL VISITOR,
