GOING THROUGH THE COURT.

(to the editor of the akaroa mail.) Sir, —It seems to me to be getting quite fashionable to go through the court, judging from the number of aspirants for the honour. From the barefaced manner in ■which these " gentlemen " have been running up bills at the different stores, and getting credit in every place where possible, they must have known that a smash was inevitable ; and I should like to know what is the difference between that kind of work, and putting your hand into a man's pocket, and robbing him ? Why, simply none. If I had my way of it, I should like to give some of them a job on the breakwater. If people must have their superfine clothes, they should do it at their own expense, and not go cadging round amongst friends, borrowing, &c. I have been told on good authority, that a poor •widow was let in to the extent of seven ffounds by one of our latest insolvents. If such is the case, I say shame on the party who would do such a thing. It is high time that a lot of this outward show was - done away with, or in other words living at the expense of the different tradespeople. If they cannot afford to wear a black suit, let them wear moleskins, or corduroys, and if honestly paid for, I am * cure it ought to be with a great deal more satisfaction to themselves, and everybody else. I am, &c, 20s. IN THE £.
