THE SUNDAY STEAMERS.

(to the editor of the akaeoa mail.)

Sib, —I dont know how it happens that co often of late the steamera have made this their port of call and departure on Sundays. I think it is right to call attention to the annoyance and the amount of Sunday labour thus occasioned. Last Sunday for example, the shrill whistle of the steamer as she took her departure was felt to have been a most unseemly noise disturbing also those engaged in public worship. I understand that in Lyttelton no steamer is permitted to discharge or take in cargo on Sunday, and I believe formerly it was so also here. Now, however, things seem to be different. Hoping that in future public worship at least, will not be disturbed by the Sunday steamers.—

I am &c, DECORUM.
