INTERPROVINCIAL TELEGRAMS.

[Per Press Agency.] Dunedin, April 27. The Macandrew Testimonial Committee met last night for the purpose of receiving a progress report from the

collectors. The amount subscribed so far has not been made public. It is intended to present the testimonial before next meeting of the Assembly.

The racehorse Right Bower died on Wednesday night, in consequence of injuries received at the March races. Some valuable shorthorn stock, from the herds of Mr. Torr, Lincolnshire, arrived in the Baron Blantyer. They are consigned to Mr. Kitching, of Moa Flat. The Dunedin Harbour Board intend to dispense with two pilots, and to have the service performed by the Captains of tug steamers. Invercargill, April 27. The Governor arrived at the railway station here yesterday evening, and was received by the Mayor and Corporation, who presented an address of welcome. In replying, His Excellency said: •■ I am most sensibly impressed with the reception you have given me as the representative of Her Majesty, on this my firt vsisit to Invercargill. I-have not yet had time to become familiar with the resources and characteristics of your district, but, after seeing the splendid agricultural and pastoral country through which I have passed to-day, I have no doubt that your progress in all that makes a people great and prosperous will be realised and that, with soil and climate such as you possess, you will have to blame yourselves if success does not crown your efforts. Insufficiency of j population appears to be your only want, but as I look round I see evidences that you have within yourselves powers which will materially assist in supplying your deficiencies in this respect. I am certain that if people in England knew what a soil and climate you possess, they would, knowing that you live under the same laws as themselves, be much less backward in coming to your shores. The Governor was loudly cheered. About 2000 persons were present. Today is a public holiday, the programme being processions by day and torchlight, luncheon, and a public ball. Wanganui, April 28. The Government have awarded £50 to the Native witnesses in the Moffatt case. The Davenport company is drawing good houses. Wellington, April 28. The Telegraph Department received a cable message from Madras to-day, notifying that telegraphic messages for Russia and Roumania not be transmitted through Turkey. (from times own correspondents.) Wellington, April 27. The Goldfields Wardens' Conference terminates to-morrow. It is understood they will recommend the adoption of a large number of the provisions of the Goldfields Bill, prepared some years ago by Messrs Haggitt, Mouatt, and Shepherd. A man, named Thomas Reed, keeper of a hulk, fell overboard when going off last night, and would have been drowned had not the sentry of the W T olverine heard his cries, and had a boat lowered.
