SCHOOL COMMITTEE'S.
Barry's Bay.
The annual meeting, for the election of the School Committee, took place in the school room, on Monday evening last. The Committee's report shewed that the attendance was steadily increasing, the number on the roll being 43, with an average attendance during last quarter of 31, and they unanimously recorded their satisfaction with the conduct of the school, by Mr. M'Clure, the master. . Messrs Anderson, David, Latter, Smith, and Vanstone, Mr. Latter was re-elected Chairman. Wainui. The annual meeting of householders in the Wainui Educational District was held in the new schoolroom on Monday evening, the 9th, inst. at the appointed hour. There was a large attendance. Mr. Reid, the Chairman of the out-going committee, in laying before the meeting the usual statement of accounts for the past year, took occasion to congratulate the householders on the completion of the school buildings, which supplied a want which had been long felt by the people of the district. The Government had been very liberal in its expenditure upon these buildings, considering that the population of the district is but small, and he hoped that the inhabitants would avail themselves to the fullest of the advantages now offered to their children. Mr. David Reid, the Deputy Returning Officer, then proceeded with the business of nominating fresh members to serve on the Committee for the ensuing year. It was resolved by the meeting that the Committee consist of eight, so that with the three to be elected in place of the three retiring members, Messrs Hunter, McKay, and Warner, the number to be now returned would be five. The following persons were duly proposed and seconded—Messrs Hunter, Warner, McKay, Watkins, Kennedy, Thomas, Wright, Bates, and Barrett. On a show of bands being called for, the number were found to be a follows —Hunter, 6 ; Warner, 12 ; McKay, 6 ; Watkins, 6 ; Kennedy, 6 ; Thomas, 7 ; Wright, 6 ; Bates, 8 ; Barrett, 6. A poll having been demanded, the Returning Officer declared that it would take place at the appointed time, viz., on the 16th inst., between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Akaroa. The annual meeting of the householders was held in the school house, on Monday evening last, there being but a very small number of householders present. The report and balance sheet, as read, were adopted. The nominations were then proceeded with, when Messrs T. B. Missen, W. Sims, W. Penlington, J. Annand, and A.I. M'Gregor were proposed,-the latter having withdrawn, the Chairman declared the first four duly elected. The retiring members were—Messrs G. Checkley, R. Noonan, H. G. Watkins, and W. Penlington. The balance sheet showed that the sum of £518 15s. 2d. had been received up to the 31st of March, and £515 ss. sd. expended, leaving a balance at the Bank of £3 10s. 9d. At a meeting of the new Committee, held after the above meeting, Mr. W. Penlington was re-elected Chairman. Mr. J. Allott tendered his resignation as a member of Committee, in consequence of having accepted a contract over £20, wdiich was accepted.
