INT ERPROVINCIAL TELEGRAMS.

[From the Press Agency].

Auckland, March 23. The German war ship Augusta leaves to-morrow for Samoa. Owing to the late departure of the mail steamer from San Francisco, due to the change to the slow Atlantic boats, the mail is not expected here till Tuesday. The Chary bdis returned from Samoa with oranges yesterday. She, brings Capt. Dunlop as prisoner ; he went to Samoa in the cutter Vincent, but has no certificate. He signed articles here in January as boatswain. A master mariner named Hays went as commander, but left the vessel in the Rangitoto channel, and Dunlop took her on. At Apia he was arrested by the Consul and fined £50 for not having a certificate ; also, £5 for not keeping a log. Not paying the fine he was sent here as prisoner, and the Vincent was sent back in command of Labaltza. The authorities here think the Consul exceeded his duty, and decline to proceed further. M* Arthur and Co. got the cargo returned on their hands by this action of the Consul. Gbahamstown, March 23. Some Natives of Ohinemuri who went up the river a short distance from their pah had shots fired at them by the Awha (Te Aroha) ? Natives. The Moanatairi was visited by 150 persons, to-day—this being visiting day for the public. Shares have receded slightly, being quoted to-day at from £21 10s to £15 15s, and closing price £19 10s. Oamaru, March 23. About a fortnight ago some men saw a man walking about on one of the islands in the Waitaki, and gave information to the police. Constables went both from here and Waimate, but they could not find the man, and nothing more was heard of the matter till Tuesday last, when two Maoris discovered a dead body lying on an island just below where the man had been seen previously. Yesterday morning the constable sent out found the man of middle size, with dark tweed trousers, elastic-side boots, and cinglet on, the latter drawn up from the body and enveloping the head. The body was much decomposed, and. the face so decayed as to be unrecognisable. It would appear that deceased tried to swim from the island and was drowned and washed up where found. As to the cause of his being upon the first island, it is conjectured that he tried to cross the river in a moki and was only able to reach the-island. After careful inquiry it cannot be fonnd that anyone is missing from any of the stations or any place in the neighbourhood. Wellington, March 25. At the nomination to-day Messrs Travers and Hutchison were the only candidates proposed. The Returning Officer declared the show of hands to be in favour of Mr. Hutchison. The number of electors present was larger than usual. March 25. The Crovenor received a cablegram yesterday afternoon from the Secretary of State, announcing that Her Majesty has conferred the order of K.C.M.G. on the Hon W. H. Fitzherbert, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
