TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL.
Sir, —In perusing your publication of the 2nd inst, I saw in the Le Bon's Bay School Committee's report, a paragraph in which the Barnett family were blamed for driving the teachers out of the Bay. Such remarks were made by me and are correct. The teachers were in the Bay before Le Bon's was proclaimed an Educational district, and giving every satisfaction to the principal part of the inhabitants until the Barnett family interfered and meddled in their actions, and was the cause of their leaving Le Bon's. Miss Hawley who was not at the time a certified teacher, and wdiose resignation is inserted, is not the party referred to—and its doubtful if she would have had the chance of sending in her resignation were it not for services rendered to the family in their Church. I wish it to be understood that the assertion of my wife having shut the door in Mr. W. Barnett's face is untrue, she having never done anything of the sort! The schoolmaster denies the words attributed to him at the meeting, but remembers hearing something to the same effect used by one of the Committee.—l am, &c, W. FOSTER. Le Bon's Bay, March Bth.
