DUNSTABLE HOUSE. AUTUMN CLEARANCE OF FASHIONABLE DRAPERY AND HOUSEHOLD FURNISHINGS. "TTTE beg respectfully to announce W that THIS D A V we shall, according to custom, OFFER the BALANCE of our SEASON'S STOCK. As this is our rule, customers may rely upon all GOODS being new and. in good condition. In many instances it will be seen that we prefer to clear out at a loss rather than hold over. Purchasers will therefore have an opportunity of considerably below English prices. It is not generally necessary to make large reductions in PLAIN DRAPERY and HOUSEHOLD FURNISHINGS, but having received advices from our London office of large shipments for these Departments, we have determined to clear out our present stocks. To effect this, we have carefully re-marked the Goods, and made such reductions as will effect the object sought. _ Catalogues were distributed with Friday's Lyttelton Times, and also, with the weekly Times, and can be obtained at Dunstable House. As the quantities, in some cases, are limited, intending purchasers would do well to make an early call. Although we think we offer the Largest and Cheapest Stock ever shown in Christchurch during the last three years, we shall, as usual, give One Shilling off every Pound purchased for Cash. We mark all Goods in plain figures. The reduced prices are in Red Ink. Buyers can easily satisfy themselves as to the reality of the reductions. The Goods are all in stock in quantity, at the reduced prices named, on the date of this issue. J. BALLANTYNE & CO., Dunstable House, Christchurch; And No. 2 Gresham Buildings, Basinghall-street, London. January 20,1877.
ENCOURAGE LOCAL INDUSTRY. ~\T O W OPE N—NEW ZEA_IN LAND CLOTHING FACTORY'S RETAIL BRANCHES— Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin. MEN'S, YOUTHS'and BOYS' CLOTHING Superior in Style to Imported Goods. A Single Garment at Wholesale Price. GEORGE KELLY, Manager, Christchurch. Branch—Opposite Cobb's Office Christchurch. Our New Zealand Industries.—Messrs Hallenstein Bros, Manufacturers and Wholesale Warehousemen, of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, following the example of some of the large manufacturers at home and more especialy with a view of preventing the importation of English clothing, are opening extensive retail establishments in the large centres of population. For this purpose they have lately fitted up commodious premises opposite Cobb's office, Cashel street, where the sale of their manufactures is now thrown open direct to the public Christchurch. This branch will be under the immediate management of Mr. George Kelly, and under the personal supervision of Mr. B. Hallenstein, the head of the New Zealand firm. Messrs Hallenstein Bros under the management of Mr. Anderson started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about three years ago. They commenced on a comparatively small scale, but at present they employ between 300 and 400 people They had to overcome many difficulties, and much prejudice, and especially the persistent opposition on the part of the larger houses glutting this market with imported goods, and no doubt the retailers found it to their advantage to push these in preference to local manufactures. The proprietors of the New Zealand Clothing Factory have therefore injudiciously decided to introduce their manufactures direct to the large consuming population of New Zealand, and in order to do so effectually, they have determined to sell a single garment at the wholesale price. The selling price is to be conducted strictly on casli principle, and all goods must be paid for on delivery, but any article not found suitable may be exchanged, or the money returned. As will be seen seen from thegannentsexhibited the public will now be able th choose from the largest stock of men's, youth's, and boys'clothing, superior in style and quality, and at a proportionately lower price to anything that can be imported. But, irrespective of all these advantages, it is to.the interest of everyone to support an industry which employs New Zealand labour, and is a direct benefit to the but cher, baker, farmer, mechanic, shopkeeper, merchant, and to everyone in the commuiicffcj\—Advt.
