STOCK AND STATIONS.
This market continues dull, as is usually at this season ol the year farmers being engaged with harvest operations, which prevent their attendance at market. At the yard on Wednesday 3289 sheep were penned, for which the biddings were anything but brisk, and prices showed a slight decline from those of last week We quote mutton for the week at to lfd per lb, with little chance of improvement for some time. Two lines of store merino wethers were withdraw, the highest offers being 4s and 4s 4d. The number of cattle yarded was 214, comprising several pens of good beef, which sold at last week's quotations, viz.:—2ss to 27s 6s per lOOlbs. Store cattle sold freely at ruling rates. Wool Charges.—We have received by the mail circulars from the East and West India Dock Company and the London and St. Katharine Docks Company announcing a reduction of 15 per cent on all their rares. Messrs. J. T. Ford and Co. report on the live stock market for the week ending Friday, February 2, as follows : —The Addington market on Wednesday last was scantily supplied with fat stock ; the cause can be attributed to the farmers being engaged harvesting. The numbers sent forward were—sheep, 3289 ; 248 head of cattle; and 19 pigs. The bulk of the sheep were chiefly merino store wethers from the Acton and Stonyhurst Stations. We report no alteration in values of fat stock, and muttcn may be quoted at from lfd to 2d per lb., and beef from 25s to 27s 6d per lOOlbs. The demand for store sheep just now is very limited, and holders of this class of stock would do well to wait for another month before sending them for ward to the yards, as there will be a thorough absence of buyers at least for that time. Store cattle are still in good demand, especially 18 months to 2 years old, and the price of weaners is simply absurd when compared with fat cattle. During the past week we have sold for forward delivery several large lines of store sheep. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report on the live stock market for the week ending Friday, Feb. 2 — At Addington, only 214 head of cattle, 3289 sheep, and 10 pigs were penned off for the week's supply. The attendance was limited, and sales were effected with difficulty. Our entries comprised 114 head of cattle and 1838 sheep, for Messrs George Holmes, E. M. Templar, J. Sharp, J. Johns, Elder, Davis, Kinley, Duncan, Tubman, Fisher, Merry, and others. We cleared most of our entries it—For Mr. Geo. Holmes, Mount Harding, wheat, 7s 6d, 7s 9d, to 8s Gd per head ; Mr. E. M. Templar's 2, tooth, at Bs, also a line of 30 do, at 8s 6d ; cross-bred ewes, 7s 6d to 9s per head ; lambs, from 5s 9d to 6s 6d per head ; outside we have several small lines at quotations. In cattle we cleared our entry at about last week's rates. Wool, Sheepkins, Hides, and Tallow. —On Tuesday last we held our usual fortnightly sale. There was keen competition for all lots offered, the presence of foreign buyers having a beneficial influence. On Thursday captial prices were obtained. ■ Best crossbread pelts, 2d to Is 3d ; rough fat, 2£d per lb ; station cask tallow, 26s 6d per cwt.; hides, salted, 3jkl; calf, 6d per lb.
