TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL.
Dear Sir, —As the time is now drawing near for the election of members for the Reclamation and Railway Trust Board, I should think it is only right that the candidates should call a public meeting to express their views on the subject. As it is a matter of considerable importance, it behoves us one and all to see that we elect suitable men to represent us. At the same time, I don't think .it fair that any gentleman should put up for two districts. Let him stand for the district in which he resides, and in which no doubt he takes the greatest interest, where, if a suitable member, he will no doubt be returned. • Hoping shortly to have an opportunity of hearing thsse gentlemen express their opinions, I remain, dear sir, SWAMP HEN.
to the editor of the akaroa mail. * Sir, —My attention having been called to a paragraph relating to school matters in your issue of Friday last, which states ' that two boys passed the fifth standard, •" who had during Mr. Duhnet's mastership JT already passed the fifth standard," I beg to say that this is an inaccuracy, and I shall feel obliged by your correcting it. Of the four boys presented for examination in the fifth standard, two passed the fourth standard under Mr. Dunnet, and two the third only. The ages of the four boys range between nine and eleven years. I trust this will give some idea of the material which the Akaroa schoolmaster has at hand, wherewith to form hia two ... upper classes. With regard to the nature of the report, permit me to suggest, that when received and read by the Committee, it be published in your columns in its entirety. I am, &c, CHARLES WYKESMITH.
