LITTLE AKALOA.

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

A meeting of the Little Akaloa School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening the 26th inst. Present —Messrs J. Pavvson, J. Brown, H. Mclntosh, and E. Turner. In the absence of Mr. Barker, the chair was taken by Mr. Turner. The minutes of last meeting were read and ammended, which as all the members were stated to have been present while Mr. Ashwin was absent. A letter was read from Mr. W. H. Harris, commenting on the Christmas examination, the substance of which has already appeared in your columns. It was proposed by Mr. Pawson—" That a vote of thanks be accorded to Mr. Harris for his services on that occasion. The resolution was seconded by Mr. Brown, and carried. A letter was read from the schoolmaster in reference to cleaning the school. The matter was allowed to stand over till next meeting. The Inspector's report was submitted, and considered very satisfactory. The following is the substance of the report :—On roll, 47 ; present, 44 ; average last quarter, 37 ; last week, 38. The order and efficiency, are highly commendable. Singing from sol-fa notation ably taught by the master. Summary of standards passed:—6th-0; sth-0; 4th-l; 3rd-7; 2nd-15; lst-9; and 12 were below standard 1. Total, 44. The progress in standards 3 and 4 highly commendable,- although the scholars are at present imperfect in the subjects more recently commenced—grammar and geography—The lowest standards are very satisfactory.
