PRICE OF BREAD.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL.
Sir, — In your issue of Tuesday last, I observed a letter signed "No Monopoly." Through the medium of your columns, I should like to ask Mr. " No Monopoly" why the other baker was not supported sufficiently to induce him to continue business. It is evident that your correspondent is very ignorant regarding the price of flour. To lighten his darkness, I would inform him that during the last week, flour has risen two pounds per ton, and by the time it is received in Akaroa the cost is scarcely under twenty pounds. I would hardly advise any baker to expect 9d. per 4lb. loaf to return the handsome profit (?) mentioned ; and would further advise Mr. " No Monopoly " to restrict his corresponding abilities to subjects he is not so lamentably ignorant about. By inserting the above you will oblige. Yours, &c, MINCHINTON. A.1. Bakery.
