FIRM ATTITUDE OF TURKEY.
SERIOUS FLOODS IN THE THAMES.
London, January 3,
After the sitting of. the Conference on Monday, Lord Salisbury visited Mushad Pacha. Minister for Foreign Affairs, and insisted that it would be to the interest of Turkey to accept the proposals submitted by the conference. Mushad Pacha expressed willingness in regard to certain points, but absolutely, rejected anything that would be contrary to the dignity and integrity of the Turkish Empire.
There has been a serious overflow of the Thames, and the rainfall continues. Sydney, January 6. The Government has received a cablegram, dated London, January 4, stating that the Turks justify their counter-pro-posals, and reject the proposals of the Powers. The rejected points are still under discussion. The representatives will re-assemble on Monday.
