Auckland Times. Saturday, Bth November, 1845. BAY OF ISLANDS.
There lias been, not even yet, any official information offered to the upon the progress of the campaign, Private intelligence gives us to understand that the laborious works intended for the demolition of the pah,the stronghold of the rebels, have been abandoned. Waimate is also deserted, and the entire military force is now resident in the ruins of Kororarika, to execute the stupendous enterprlze of re establishing the British flag staff. The Hazard goes away on Monday for China, and the detachment, of H. M. Regt. 96 have returned to Auckland. It is said that Kororarika is to be immediately strongly fortified, but without better information than we possess we are unable even to conjecture what may be the purport that could prompt the abandonment of the first design, viz. the punishment of the rebels and murderers, in favor of the present scheme of keeping "Watch and Ward" over a heap of smouldering ashes. A report has been prevalent in town of an actual and long continued contest at the Bay. More than one small craft that has come in having reported to the hearing of very heavy firing on Monday, but as it is known that Sir E. Home intended to practice the big guns of the North Star, the alarm on this subject may easily subside, or rather we might say there is no such good luck for our troops and seamen as a fair encounter with the skulking foe. If there be anything ungracious in the above remarks, we say again it is the fault of those who so studiously withhold information.
