NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS.

We decline to insert Mr. Partridge's letter: it appears that Mr. P. has received a very gross and unprovoked personal affront from the Colonial Secretary; and having such complaint to make, he should lay it before His Excellency the Governor: if be is then refused redress, it is time to apply to us. In Shortland's time it was the custom of every jack in office to treat the citizens with superlative rudeness ; but upon the arrival of Captain Fitzroy his personal demeanour, (with very few exceptions) backed by his command, instructed the officials that though they had obtained the position of public servants they need not, and must not therefore, lay aside the character and demeanour of gentlemen Mr, Partridge smarting under an insult, has followed in the long letter sent to us, the bad example he complains of, by introducing many personalities, perfectly foreign to the matter. Our correspondent Upon the subject of a recent (as he alleges) illegal Auction Sale, must be aware that it is a delicate, as well as a dangerous thing for us to meddle with the affairs of other persons in trade. We are, however, decidedly of opinion, that any goods sold "at the risk," or for the account of any absent interest, ought certainly to be publicly announced before the sale. In this instance, we have heard upon enquiry, that the purchaser of the goods mentioned, is quite willing they should be put up and resold. Perhaps this course will best suit the demands of all parties.
