OUR " BLACKGUARD” SELVES.

The virtuous person who does New Zealander editorial duty, at length has found herself “ compelled to notice us for the first and the last time.” Her leader of Wednesday is redolent of spice and al together a pretty specimen of abuse. That scurrilous old lady preaching against slander recalls Satan in the act of preaching against Sin. She accuses Mr. Southwell of “raking up foul accusations against every man not ot the Progress clique.” Now, whoever believes this accusation Believes a falsehood. Mr. Southwell may have much erred in his judgment of certain Local Politicians, but the sketches Mrs. Slipslop so bitterly, complains of have been declared “ speak ing likenesses,” and an answer to the charge of sparing Progress politicians

i while dealing out hard measure to their opponents is a fact. Conspicuous among Sketches thought, by fri.mds of the originals, blackguard caricatures rather than correct likenesses, are those of Messrs. Brodig, Carleton, and Graham. Want of space obliges us for the present to take leave of that scurrilous protester against scurrility, who lias done more to foment party hate, to promote party corruption, and to disgrace our Newspaper pres*, than any other person in the province. Ngxt week we will prove her latest outburst of malevolence a tissue of bare-faced falsehood.
